The Mental Shortcut for Mastering Transcription

Let's be brutally honest: Transcription is usually taught terribly in textbooks. You don't need to be a genius to master this; you just need to understand one specific mental model.

The Mental Model

Instead of viewing Transcription as a rigid formula, think of it as a logical sequence. The only reason it gets complicated is when you start mixing up where it happens in eukaryotes.

If you avoid that pitfall, the shortcut works 100% of the time. Look at this:

Transcription (DNA to mRNA) happens inside the nucleus. Translation (mRNA to protein) happens outside at the ribosomes. Eukaryotes separate these; prokaryotes do not.

Once you internalize that specific relationship, you can solve these problems in half the time.
