The Mental Shortcut for Mastering Chain Rule
Struggling with Chain Rule? Here is the no-BS guide to understanding it, complete with real-world examples and study shortcuts.
Let's be brutally honest: Chain Rule is usually taught terribly in textbooks. You don't need to be a genius to master this; you just need to understand one specific mental model.
The Ultimate Chain Rule Framework
Want to solve these faster? Stop treating every problem like it's brand new. Every problem follows the exact same architectural rules.
The Rule: Take d/dx [sin(x^2)]. The derivative of the outside is cos(x^2). But if you stop there, you fail. You MUST multiply by the inside derivative (2x) to get 2x * cos(x^2).
The Exception (Do Not Do This): forgetting to multiply by the derivative of the inside function.
Lock that framework into your brain and you will never need to cram this topic again.
